James Gaffney

James Gaffney is Professor Emeritus of Religious Studies. After receiving a bachelor's degree in Biology and Philosophy (Spring Hill) he earned master'sdegrees in both Psychology (Fordham) and African Studies (Texas Southern) and a doctorate in Religion (Gregorian, Rome). He has taught in Europe, Africa, and Latin America as well as in several U.S. universities. Author of ten books and of parts of ten others, and of some seventy articles, his special interest is in relationships among religions, ethical theory, and moral behavior. He has been Department Chair and a recipient of Loyola's Dux Academicus award for faculty excellence.
