  • Pre-Law Program
The Philosophy Department recently established a Pre-Law major and minor in Philosophy.
The Pre-Law program in philosophy aims at making its students highly competitive for entry into outstanding law school programs by: (1) providing students with an academic preparation in the skills and habits of reasoning required in the study and practice of law, (2) familiarizing students with the conceptual foundations of law, government and ethics, and (2) exposing students to the classical philosophical history that our Western legal tradition presupposes.
The pre-law major requires a minimum of thirty credit hours (i.e. ten courses) from a curriculum that includes The Philosophy of Law and other courses relevant to legal studies, plus completion of Introduction to Philosophy. A pre-law minor requires completion of eighteen credit hours after Introduction to Philosophy. In addition, the pre-law program includes alumni advisers now in law school or the legal profession who will be available to consult informally with philosophy pre-law majors.
