Bio and Publications

I routinely teach Introduction to Philosophy (Phil T122), Making Moral Decisions (Phil V152), Environmental Philosophy (Phil V143), Divine Madness (Phil U139), and Ancient Philosophy (Phil A400). In the spring of 2005, however, I will teach Metaphysics (Phil A210) and Honors Philosophy II: Metaphysics (Phil H234).

My area of specialty is ancient Greek philosophy, but current research and teaching interests include environmental philosophy and the metaphysics correlated with what (following Plato) we could term “divine madness” in Western and Eastern thought. I am a member of the Metaphysical Society of America and presented a paper entitled, “Eros and the Three Versions of Divine Madness” at their annual meeting in March of 2003. I have published articles on Plato and Descartes in journals such as Ancient Philosophy and International Philosophical Quarterly. My most recent article appeared in the Tijdschrift voor Filosophie (65/2003, p. 93-119) entitled, “On Divine Madness, its Relations to the Good, and the Erotic Aspect of the Agapeic Good.”

I am a philosophy major advisor as well as the faculty advisor to both the Loyola Philosophy Club and the Philosophy Honor Society (Phi Sigma Tau). My university service includes being a member of the Environmental Studies committee and a philosophy department representative to the University Senate.

Off-campus I am a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, the New Orleans Men's Center, and the first New Orleans I-Group of the Mankind Project International.
