| History graduates choose from a
number of paths when they plot their futures. Many go to graduate
school to earn higher degrees and sometiems land a position at a university
teaching the subject in which they invested a great deal of their time.
They may also go to law school or other fields. Here's what some
graduates had to say about their plans for life after graduation:
|
||
| "I will dedicate a great number of years
to disover human susceptibility to educated organizers! However,
I will preserve my livelihood, giving in to this capitalist society, by
getting a job."
-Deon Sanders
"I am currently working for an attorney who specializes in family law
as a legal secretary/ paralegal. I will begin law school in the fall
in Louisiana, but I have not decided which yet."
-Mary Slavich
|
"I will be attending law school. It
will either be George Washington or Georgetwon, but I'm not sure yet.
I am also trying to get an internship in Washington this summer."
-Michael Tregle
"I walk in May (at graduation), go to London for Loyola's Summer Session
in July and then I hope to start as a general assignment reporter for a
newspaper in August."
-Elizabeth Stuart
|
|
| "After graduation I plan either
to attend the University of Delaware for a graduate degree in Historic
Preservation, or stay in New Orleans for a year and keep working at the
Historic New Orleans Collection. After that, I have no idea."
-Heather Yost

| The history department has chosen a new professor. Professor
Jacqueline Woodfork will start in the fall semester and will teach
African American history courses. She will receive her doctorate
in May from the University of Texas, Austin.
There was an article in The Times-Picayune on Sun., Feb. 4 about the dedication of a computer lab at the Algiers Regional Library. The Lab was funded in large part by the proceeds of a sale of property left to the library system by Peter J. Cangelosi. Mr. Cangelosi retired from the History Department at Loyola in May 1998 after having taught here for nearly 40 years. Sadly, he died of a heart attack six months later. Dr. Mark Fernandez will be taking a sabbatical for the Fall 2001 semester and Dr. Nancy Anderson will be taking a sabbatical for the Fall 2001 and Spring 2002 semesters. They will be working on historical research. |

the Romanian Foregin Ministry and Professor of History at the University
of Timisoara will present a lecture on Romanian Foregin Policy in the Twentieth
Century. Thursday April 5 at 4 p.m., Monroe Rm. 157. Dr. Preda
is the author of numerous books and is currently on a Fulbright at Georgetown
