Personal Sketch

Dr. Moazami joined Loyola's History Department in 2007.  He completed his second Ph.D. in Sociology and History from the New School for Social Research (NY) in 2004.

Biography

From Tehran, Iran, Dr. Moazami has joined Loyola's faculty after a life of political activism and academia. Dr. Moazami was raised in Iranian society and experienced the life of a revolutionary. He has taught at several universities, including the New School for Social Science (NYU) and Tulane University. Dr. Moazami hopes to broaden our ideas of the Middle East and its culture. He says "the Middle East is not just a militant Islamic society with a violent past; it is more complex!" Dr. Moazami's courses will elaborate on this idea. He is currently engaged in creating the Middle East / Peace Studies interdisciplinary minor program.

Publications

Dr. Moazami has published articles in Proceedings of the Mossadegh Conference, Book of Social Review, Europe, Arash, and Noghteh.  He is currently working on a book manuscript entitled The Making of the State, Religion and the Islamic Revolution in Iran (1796-1979).
