Professor of Biological Sciences, College of Arts & Sciences (on sabbatical leave 2003-04). Ph.D. in Evolutionary Biology, Texas Tech University, 1986. Courses taught in the Environmental Studies Program include -- Evolution (BIOL 136) and Ecology & Evolution (BIOL A208). I also teach biology major's courses -- Biology of Organisms and Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy. My research interests are in understanding how and why organisms vary in their morphology using video-based image analysis and multivariate statistics. Ecological studies include assessment of impacts of nutria herbivory and mammal biodiversity at Jean Lafitte National Park. This project includes studies of field work on mammal ecology and natural history -- www.loyno.edu/~chood/jlnpmammals.html. I am initiating studies of landscape ecology using GIS technology and have generally been interested in using appropriate information technology tools (www) in both my teaching and research.
