Professor of English in City College; Ph.D. in English literature, University of Notre Dame, 1974. Although I began my career as a specialist in Renaissance poetry, my teaching and research interests have been reshaped by the women's movement and by women's studies. Over the years, I have been very active in developing courses in women's studies at the University of Mississippi (where I taught from 1979-1984) and at Loyola. I have also written and published on a variety of literary topics, including feminist pedagogy and the writing of Southern women, particularly Kate Chopin. Like my work in women's studies, my interest in environmental studies springs from my personal commitments to the well-being of the environment. I hope soon to introduce a course into the minor on the attitudes toward nature that are reflected in North American literature.
