Bachelor of Arts in English, Film and Digital Media

The bachelor degree in English with a concentration in Film and Digital Media (FDM) prepares students to analyze, critique, and produce cultural objects in a variety of print and non-print formats. Six required courses in literary study provide a foundation from which students will address visual, audio, and interactive media as an extension of aesthetic and cultural history. A single required gateway course (ENGL A220) introduces students to thinking with and against the specific qualities, constraints, and affordances of different media forms. From there, five FDM electives allow students the flexibility to shape the concentration to their interests and investments. Many students supplement courses on the critical study of media with electives in film or digital media production, internships with the New Orleans Review or with organizations outside Loyola, creative or critical theses, or collaborative research projects with our faculty. The Film and Digital Media concentration offers a customizable mixture of real-world engagements with an evolving media landscape that is grounded in a liberal-studies tradition.
