Founded in 1987 as a joint venture between Loyola University New Orleans, The University of Florida at Gainesville, and The State University of New York/Binghamton, Exemplaria has received awards from the Council of Editors of Learned Journals for "Best New Journal" (1990) and "Best Special Issue" (1992). Publishing two volumes a year, Exemplaria regularly sponsors a special session at the annual International Congress of Medieval Studies at Western Michigan University.
