Our Mission
As part of Loyola’s Pathways Strategic Plan and related program restructuring new students are not being accepted into the Computer Science (CS) and Computer Information Systems (CIS) programs. In addition, only students with Junior or Senior status as of Fall 2006, and with departmental approval, may complete majors in either of these two programs. Continuing students with a declared major in CS or CIS should contact the Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.
The Department of Computer Science provides two baccalaureate degree programs: Mathematics, Computer Information Systems*, and Computer Science*. Through all degree programs the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is committed to: (a) excellence in education, (b) encouragement of student interest in all areas of mathematics and computer science, (c) dynamic scholarly activity, and (d) a critical sense of community responsibility, all in the context of being a Catholic, Jesuit institution. The department contributes to the mission of the university and the college by attracting students, by scholarly endeavors, and by providing service courses in all areas of mathematics and computer science. Each member of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is expected to conduct her/him self in a manner compatible with the academic and professional functions of the department.
