Our Mission

The Chemical Hygiene Office (CHO) is responsible for establishing health and safety policies and protocols that are adopted by the university in order to assure that all work spaces and teaching areas comply with federal chemical use guidelines. Protocols are developed to allow those in the campus community, who use characteristically hazardous material, to do so without posing a threat to themselves nor the environment at large. Office duties include: spreading awareness of and enforcing the Chemical Hygiene Plan, interpreting state and federal regulations, hazardous waste abatement, radioactive materials safety management [19], preparation of standard operating procedures [20], designation of safety equipment necessities or required upgrades and providing safety training.
