Dr. Dorn's research is focused on understanding the epidemiology and control of transmission of Chagas disease, a leading cause of heart disease in Latin America caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi . Her most recent work examines the genetic structure of a leading Chagas insect vector in Mesoamerica, Triatoma dimidiata, and T. cruzi infection in insect vectors and animals in the southern United States.
